Four new members, that was probably the best news from Howard our president in his report to the club at this year’s AGM. A healthy balance sheet was presented from our treasurer thanks mainly to our recent auction and our President John’s skill with the gavel. A report from Adrian followed on the new Tree of the Month Competitions and the new workshops days. Jon B.then gave us details of the tree collecting day plans for the future.
An AGM is not the most exciting meeting bonsai wise for our new members for their first visit but at least there was a good selection of trees for them to see in our biggest yet tree of the month competition
TREE of the MONTH COMPETITION
The advanced class was won by Brian with a Cotoneaster followed by the two Johns equal seconds. A Gardenia from John T.with an ‘h’ and a nice little group of two Western Hemlocks from Jon B. without an ‘h’
The Novices Class was won by Richard P with a Podocarpus (or Temple Pine) with James’ Cotoneaster and Michael’s Ficus Retusa both equal second. It was good to see that two of the entries were from the new members.
Once again thanks to
Bill P. for his photographs, we will have to arrange some sort of background screen to do his photos and the trees justice.
The other trees entered or brought along in the evening included these
Adrian then announced the result for the whole year in this competition
In the Novices Class they were
3rd Richard P. 2nd Sara. and First Michael
and in the Advanced Class
3rd Roger. 2nd Brian and First Jon B.
Now Michael C has been certified he will have to compete in the advanced class in future which matches his own vintage better.
The evening was rounded off by tucking in to the various cakes, biscuits and other festive edible offerings members had brought in.
We now look forward to the new year, with some new members and new activities, a pretty healthy position for a small club like our to be in, so lots of thanks to Andy, the committee and all who helped it run so well in the past year.
A HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
